Bee Gees - Alone (1998)

Very, very indifferent to everything the Bee Gees ever did so I'm not at all surprised I didn't know about this video. (Cheers Tim)  It's another Barabarella parody however, unlike the original film and the Kylie version, this manages to remain dull while failing to give even a nod in the general direction of the erotic.
It might be the fact that, you can't really see anything through the video colour bleed or it's the constant return edit back to three bearded men harmonising in a padded cell but its a big bucket of cold water of a video.
That's a sort of spacesuit by the way.
Bring me the head of the art director.

Here's Kylie to make everything alright again

  2. By the way, what is it with Barbarella? That movie is sooo bad, but yet people draw from it all the time. Maybe because it is French....?

    1. It's mad-bonkers with ideas and visuals from all over the place. Eye-candy with a comic book logic. I love it but you have to be in the right mood and I would never recommend it to all, as it is a very particular fare.

    2. Another little bit of barberella trivia Mathmos is the name of a company that makes lava lamps, which is funny because the original mathmos in the movie looked like a giant one

    3. I think it's reasonable well established throughout the late 60's and 70's that the Lava lamp is representative of, Alien evil, future science, our DNA and wall paper at a space disco. Having one on the mantle piece back then must have been like bottling lightening.

    4. How can you not like Barberela? it's like saying I avoid going to the beach in summer. Of course I appreciate it for the solid science behind it plot elements, like the positronic ray and the excessive machine.

    5. Each to their own. I'm not surprised given William's rather excellent Military based sci-fi blog.- it does suggest it's not going to be to his tastes. As a fun game to play. If you loved/hated Barbarella you might also love/hate.....
      Zardoz
      Danger Diabolik
      Tank Girl

I mean that one line says it all!
Thats the sort of awesomness that people come up with when their request to film The lord of the Rings is refused, just imagine the movie that peter jackson would have come up with if they`d turned him down

    7. Still haven't got round to re-watching Zardoz but I did once name a goldfish after Diabolik. Tank Girl: they made a film? I've got all the issues of Deadline somewhere though.

    8. I feel like that about Zardoz. It's nice to find someone that feels so passionately the same. And I love the fact that most the world don't get how great it is. Genius.

I like the Tank Girl movie but not everyone does and most of them are fans of the original graphic series! I think it's a brave attempt to get within spitting distance of the subject material

  3. On an entirely unrelated note,I`ve just remembered that the excellent Silent Running starring bruce dern has a brief spacesuit/pressure suit scene, but sadly I`ve been only able to find a small picture of it

    1. Yes I've had that film in mind for a while now but held off blogging about it because I've only ever found one rather small and very poor picture....which interestingly is not the same one you've found.. Might go with those now as at least there's a couple of snaps and I really don't think I'm going to find better. Cheers Tim

  4. Just remembered another one for the really awful file,in the movie CQ the heroine goes to the moon, where the baddies moon base is,clad only in goggles and an oxygen mask, the "suit" looks like something on a 60s catwalk

    2. The barberella-esque scenes were a laugh, and the model effects of paris 2001 looked like they hired the guys from the gamma one quadrilogy, but I`m ashamed to say I didnt really watch the whole thing
Heres another shot of her "spacesuit" this time from behind

  5. For me the name Zardoz will always be linked to one thing: "The Gun is Good! The Penis is evil." Nuff said
