A Cultural History
Interesting, saw this film a short while ago, it's quite hard going, I couldn't take it in one sitting. It's got some good bits though and the basic premiss is quite good. The script is over the place. Campbell puts in the a consistent effort but his role is terrible. I don't expect or really appreciate enormous production values but something went wrong on set. The cast in general seem to be lost, as if they were struggling with lines they were given 5 minutes ago and told to, -make like a spaceman- by the guy rolling the director's spliffs. There's is one classic scene which I laughed my nuts off at, Koenig produces a moon tent at a most fortuitous moment, Mmm yes Walter pays to be prepared for the unforeseen contingency .
I've seen it but I don't remember too much other than its not very good and I wanted to like if far more than I did. I'ld like to say I selected it from the video shelves at random but I think Fangoria did an article and I actually went out looking for it. I've all the time in the world for Campbell and killer robot-things but I can live with never seeing it again...especially as you've just confirmed what I recalled.
