Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

A recent comment from blog reader Sword Takeda in regard to Windak space suits, got be looking back at all my old posts and I realised, that while filling in the back story up to its best known appearance I had actually managed never to complete the journey.  So this is me doing just that.

Ladies and Gentleman, may I present Bossk in what seems likely to be the last known appearance of the yellow Windak high altitude pressure suit.

  1. So, is this suit the same used for the X-Wing pilots and that sideburn-pilot in the Cantata at Mos Eisley? Also, solid work here on this. Very interesting

    1. X-Wing pilots share the same white chest vest design but otherwise it's a different suit. Historically there appears to be three Windaks with a movie career. Two yellow/mustard and one dark blue/black. One of each appear in the cantina and the same yellow one, or the other 2nd yellow one also pops up in Empire as above. And once Lucas gets his hands on them they are never seen again. I reckon they brought some US space suits and other suitable costumes with them and then hit the hire stores for extras to beef up the background of the cantina. I then surmise that they were not returned. I believe this is always an option with studio costume hire stores; alter or damage beyond repair, forgo your deposit and keep costume. a few years later you look in your dressing up box for bounty hunter costumes, find the yellow one and decide its a bit cool and worth a second outing. It is interesting isn't it.

  2. If memory serves Bossk pops up again in Return of the Jedi in the same suit same

A quick google for the character and the film name reveals plenty of images
