It's the year 2063 and after 150 years of deep space exploration, the people of
Earth feel certain they are alone in the universe. Then word comes that two
Earth outposts, light-years away from home have been brutally attacked by an
advanced alien civilisation. Now the new young recruits of the United States
Marine Corps Space Aviator Calvary head for the front lines of space in the
toughest battle the world has ever faced.
24 episodes created and written by top X-Files scribes Glen Morgan and James Wong. Originally planned for five seasons, it ran only for the single 1995–1996 season. And for those that have seen it, it was generally considered to have been quite good and cancelled before it's time. A recent release of the Region 2 UK box set means I might just get round to watching this myself.
For those that have already had the pleasure, I would love to know if its worth stumping the cash up to watch this and...do these images show "Spacesuits" or "Not really a spacesuit but.." They look a bit like they might be the latter, which is how I've labelled the post but I'm open to the wisdom of crowds.

It's got a great theme tune...
ReplyDeleteIs that as far as you are prepared to go?
DeleteHmm, gonna have to check this one out. I'm intrigued more than usual.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Most times I can live with not knowing but this sounds all kinds of interesting.
DeleteSAAB is my favorite sci-fi show of all time, and came during a time in American TV sci-fi when Star Trek and B5 were dominate. SAAB is a hard edged series that has the same dark magic as the X-Files (done by some of the same people). Seriously. I fucking love SAAB, and it is worth your time and quid.
ReplyDeleteThe Spacesuits that the Marines wear is an interesting story. While they are on a planet or astroid, they were the backpack, helmet, and their flight-suits. The flightsuits are believed to be an advanced "wearable" sandwiched layered spacesuit. During the Xmas episode of "River of Stars" Paul Wang wears a then current NASA spacesuit. This could mean that the Marine planetary flight-suit has limits, and once out in the black, you must don a heavier suit. Check out the series...one of the best
OK. I'm sold. Lets get Christmas out the way and then I'll go hunt me down that box set.
DeleteOn queer element with the boxset is that menu screen has the Babylon 5 station! What the Frak? And there is little or nothing in the way of extras. Really wanted more in the way of the story of SAAB. Should have been cancelled. Pity
ReplyDeleteIts not a bad yarn and worth checking out and the pilot even has R Lee Ermey reprising his full metal jacket drill sargent role
