Contamination (1980)

Contamination is an Italian horror/sci-fi film that was made to tap into a similar financial vein as Ridley Scott's Alien. - Or so I'm told.  The plot is predominantly earthbound and concerns a former astronaut who helps a government agent and a police detective track the source of mysterious alien pod spores to a South American coffee plantation controlled by alien pod clones.  Its also known as; Alien Contamination, Contamination: Alien on Earth and Toxic Spawn.  Here's a couple of images from the space bit.

A helmet in a helmet...That's new.

  1. For some real-life spacesuits, a light cloth helmet was worn inside the spacesuit helmet to hold earphones and microphones steady. You can see it here on Gagarin's suit:

However, a crash helmet? Yeah, that's new.

  2. Have to wonder where the actual 'suits' come from, this movie is very cheap so I doubt it was bespoke...this suit also got reused very briefly in 2019: After the Fall of New York a few years later, minus the helmets.

  3. Oh! Just been looking through your blog more (it is so good) and seems these spacesuits here were reused entirely from Le Ormur aka Footprints on the Moon (1975) - even the helmets inside the helmets!
