Storm Catcher (1999)

Not seen this but from what I've read I think these are high altitude flight suits as featured in this Dolph Lundgren film; Storm Catcher. Later on though, they intermingle with the spacesuits from Soldier (1998) for varied Firefly (2002) appearances and then and go on to appear in Start Trek Voyager in their new hybrid form.  I do like it when a couple of different suits come together to make a 3rd variant, although it does make it hard to catalogue. It happened with the Moon Zero Two and the Doppelganger spacesuits

A retired astronaut decides to head back into space one last time in an attempt to figure out where his life stopped being fulfilling

A couple of suits here, costume hire I would imagine so both have probably popped up in other places.

A potential disaster rocks a space station and the lives of those on board.  I've never seen this but online reviews say it's so bad... that it's just bad.

The Astronaut's Wife (1999)

The Astronaut's Wife is a very odd film that feels like it should have been made in the early 70's.  It's Rosemary's Baby meets Solaris with some very beautiful talented actors which should be enough for anyone and yet something's missing

Those facial expressions just about sum it up, really.

Touched By An Angel - Godspeed (1999)

Touched by an Angel is an American drama series that premiered on CBS on September 21, 1994 and ran for 211 episodes and nine seasons until its conclusion on April 27, 2003.

The series stars Roma Downey, as an angel named Monica, and Della Reese, as her supervisor Tess. Throughout the series, Monica is tasked with bringing guidance and messages from God to various people who are at a crossroads in their lives.

These images are from the season 5 episode; Godspeed, clips of which were recently viewed by myself on the old YouTube.

I'm sure it wasn't meant to make me laugh like a drain but with lines like;  "It's not your oxygen that's in short supply, its your faith." who could blame me.  We're incapable of making faith based TV like this in Blighty.  When we try it comes out all Father Ted or Vicar of Dibley.  I'm in awe.

The Martians - Kim Stanley Robinson (1999) Peter Elson

Art from the cover of Kim Stanley Robinson's The Martians.  This is by Peter Elson and it's rather nice.  We'll be looking at more of Elson's stuff in the future as I'm something of a fan.  It's just a shame this is a blog about spacemen as that excludes a lot of his other stuff.  Go look him up.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)

The second of the Austin Powers films is still very much spoofing James Bond, Derek Flint and Jason King.  All of which are fairly easy targets but what you have to love about this sequel is the inspired invention of the Mini-Me character as played by Verne Troyer.  That was worth the cost of admission alone.

There's a plot in there somewhere but its not really important as its only a vehicle to hang the gags and 60's visuals off. Smashing!

Any way here are the spacesuits which have very nice retro fish-bowl helmets and a suit design that has more than a passing nod towards Kubrick's; 2001.
