Stargate SG-1 - Season 9, Episode 20: Camelot (2006)

I watched an episode or two of Stargate SG1 once upon a time and didn't really take with it.  Is it worth revising my opinion and giving it all another go?  I liked the movie but the episode I saw seemed a bit knock off Star Trek.  There's clearly more to it than that though otherwise it would never have run as long as it did.  What am I missing?

The Sea of Perdition (2006)

The Sea of Perdition is short film by director; Richard Stanley.

 It follows a lone astronaut exploring the Martian landscape who......  Actually its not much more than about 8 minutes in duration so you should probably just go and find out for yourself.   It's available on YouTube as well as a number of other places and  it really is well worth a little look.

I've been a Richard Stanley fan since catching Hardware on VHS back in the day and his follow up; Dust Devil (The directors cut) is a work of dark art.  After that it all went a bit wrong and Richard became a semi obscure all be it well respected cult figure.

Somebody should probably give him a big fat cheque and a movie script  to direct but in the meantime his film shorts are more than worth the cost of admission.  Well done, Sir.  More please.  Many, many more.

Honda Asimo advert (2006)

Learning to love technology was pretty much what Honda was selling in this rather wonderful advert from 2006.

Asimo, a cute little humanoid robot and the poster child for ‘warm technology’ is seen wandering through a museum viewing the progression of man via the exhibits.

Along the the way he confronts this spacesuit and there's something resembling a moment of recognition for a direct ancestor.   It's TV advertising as an artform.

Doctor Who The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit (2006)

A rather lovely little number this, inspired by NASA’s orange space shuttle suits with helmets built upon and around this...

which is a SCOTT safety Helmet. 

The story is set way in the future on Sanctuary Base 6, a space base on the surface of a planet which is somewhat impossibly orbiting a black hole.  It’s a cracking two parter with plenty of suspense and spooks to go round and well worth checking out if you haven’t had the pleasure yet.

A revamp of this suit appears the following year in the episode; 42 and the actual suit seen here and borrowed by The Doctor in these episodes turns up again a whole three years later when the Timelord goes a visiting Mars intent on a little stroll.
