Pervye na Lune AKA First on the Moon is a 2005 Russian mockumentary about a fictional 1930s Soviet Moon landing. The film, which went on to win many awards, was the debut of the director Aleksei Fedorchenko.

Absolute Zero (2005)

IMDB says: A shift in the Earth's polarity plunges the equatorial regions of the planet into an ice age of -459 degrees Fahrenheit; a temperature so cold that energy and light doesn't exist.

Beyond that....you are on your own as it doesn't sound like something I'm going to rush out and watch.  Anyone that has seen it, feel free to leave a comment and let us know what you thought.

Space Cadets (2005)

Space Cadets was a British television programme made by Zeppotron for Channel 4. Presented by Johnny Vaughan, it was aired across ten consecutive nights beginning on 7 December 2005

The concept of the show was that a group of twelve contestants - who answered an advert looking for "thrill seekers" - were selected to become the first British televised space tourists, including going to Russia to train as cosmonauts at the "Space Tourist Agency of Russia" (STAR) military base, with the series culminating in a group of four embarking on a five-day space mission in low Earth orbit.

The show and space mission contained aspects of Reality TV, including hidden cameras, soundproofed 'video diary' rooms and group dormitories. However, the show was in fact an elaborate practical joke, described by Commissioning Editor Angela Jain as Candid Camera live in space.  

I had forgotten all about this on account of only watching 1 episode and then deciding it was utter shite. (IMO, as the kids say!)

This is the same suit that turns up in the Metal Hurlant Chronicles episode from 2012.  There are 7 years between those two appearance and at least 4 outfits so I can't believe they didn't pop up in between times in other places.  I have a new mission for you, blog-followers; Where else have we seen this design.

Santa in Space - Les Edwards (2005)

Well I had a nice day, I hope you all did to.

 

Boxing day is better though,  A little slower, less visiting and visitors and time to enjoy some of the Christmas gifts.  As I write this I'm eating Walnut Whips and listening to David Bowie's Nothing has changed.  There's some (Amazon) vouchers to be turned into books and I'm being overlooked by a 7" Gorilla Soldier from the original and still the best of all the Ape films.

 

Me at 12 would have been quite happy with all of that, let alone having his very own blog about Spacemen that's looked at by several thousand people a month from all the way around the world.

 

That's a pretty good gift to have and it lasts all year long.

Space Race (2005)

This is Yuri Gagarin as portrayed in the BBC Docudrama Space Race.  This was a co production between British, German, American and Russian production teams which is interesting because me and blog watcher; DeadSpiderEye are not at all convince by the helmets.  He has suggested that this is in fact a redressed helmet from the BBC's Star Cops (1987) and it might just be.

And this is the Alan Shepard look-a-likey in his not especially look-a-likey helmet and suit.  I don't know from where it came but you some how expect better of the BBC

Zathura (2005)

Two young brothers are drawn into intergalactic adventure when their house is magically transported into space by consequence of Zathura, a board game they're playing.

There are asteroids, spaceships, robots, aliens and Dax Shepard as the heroic Astronaut.

I stumbled across this family film on TV one afternoon, knowing nothing at all about it, and found it quite entertaining.  Perhaps a little bit more than the kids I was watching it with did

There is a lovely 1950's retro design to the sci-fi elements which ties in to the fact that the Zathura board game is found in the basement, a lost toy from a previous generation.  And where possible the special effects are practical and not computer generated which give it an old fashioned; 1970's look from my own childhood.

The film wasn't a big hit and got very mixed reviews but I, for any number of different reasons, recommend it to any.
