Kids Incorporated. (1984) ....where have I seen those space helmets before?

I previously blogged about this; Kids Incorporated - NASA Space Week (1984)
Which featured a Men into Space helmet & suit and four other unknown space helmets.  I suggested at the time that such items were too expensive for such a cheap show to manufacture themselves, therefore they would have been from somewhere else.  Well the mystery was solved quite quickly when blog followers; John Nowak came up with the answer, and the ever reliable Tim Armstrong gave his agreement.  So, until such times as we track down more of them, I present to you the first recycling of the 1965 to 1968 Lost in Space, Jupiter 2 space helmets.

1968 to 1984 is a lot of years so where else did they pop up?

Two were sold at auction in new colours so they've definitely been somewhere else in between times.  Lets go track them down and report back here with our findings.

Exhibit A and B below but that may just be the tip of the iceberg.

  3. As far as I can tell there were three helmets used in the original Lost In Space series. All three were used in the first two episodes. Each helmet is slightly different and can be identified by the metal trim ring. The main helmet used by Guy Williams was sold at auction with its vest. Helmet 2 is the Mark Goddard and was later painted red. That helmet is in the hands of a master prop builder and is fully restored and was recently on display at Wonderfest in Louisville in 2018. The red, white and blue helmet was originally white and worn by June Lockhart in the first two episodes. In the episode "Welcome Stranger" the helmet received red and blue sectioning and had two appendages added: antenna and connection to communication. Warren Oates wore this in the episode. The helmet was later purchased by Planet Hollywood and currently I own the helmet. It looks like someone over the years started repairs and restoration but never finished it. It will be restored and repaired keeping the original interior padding and metal trim ring. A visor will be added to it as well and it will be on display at Wonderfest Louisville 2019. It will also be part of The Jupiter Experience, which is a full size flight deck of the Jupiter 2.
