Starcom - The Toyline (1987)

I was too old to have been into these when they came out and I don't remember ever being aware that there was a TV series. My younger brother had a couple of the figures and a small vehicle, I think. From what I can gather Starcom never really set the world on fire but I quite like the box art though.

  1. In 1987, I was about the right age for this toy line, and I watched all of the 11 episodes of the cartoon, but it died a quick death. What doomed STARCOM was the figures, vehicles, and playsets were not too small for you to use your GI Joes or Star Wars figures, and they were pricey for the time. Plus, when the TV (more like long advert) series died, so went the toys. I knew few people back in the day that had the toys, and if they did, they had one or two.
Still, the military spacesuits were cool.

  2. I seem to remember them being smaller than star wars figures... which is probably quite foolish. One of the great joys of playing with my micronauts as a youngsters was that they could take on Stormtrooper and Darth Vader.... Even Captain Eagle could get in on the action (For those that remember him)

  3. I had two space ships and half a dozen figures as a kid, but I foolishly traded them to another kid in the neighborhood. I regret it to this day. I'm going to have to buy some online at some point as a keepsake.

  4. I disagree that the TV series was an extended advertisement. Starcom was in fact one of the more carefully written shows of it's era. Attention to some of the small details, like the spacecraft using maneuvering thrusters to change attitudes, added to the show's legitimacy factor.
