I think this is a really bad film. I wouldn't swear to it because I've blocked all memory of having seen it from my mind. I can prove this by the fact I was half way through doing this blog when I realised I had already blogged about it once already. I've just added the word; Gallery, to the title and now we're good to go again. Look at the pretty space suits but do not be tempted to watch the film.
Steve
I don't mind this flick so much, not that I'm likely to feel the urge to see it again, Oh dear I think I've contradicted myself. I get this one confused with the other film with a similar themes who's title I can't recall. That's not my point really anyway, I just thought I'd drop in and mention that I think I've spotted a helmet from Star Cops in an episode of the BBC's Space Race, worn by the actor depicting Yuri Gagarin. Which brings to mind one my issues with space helmets. I know it's make believe and we're supposed to need to see the actors fizog but just once I like to at least an attempt at realism with an opaque visor.
ReplyDeleteTry "Deep Impact" for an opaque visor that becomes a critical element of the story. And maybe "Space Cowboys" for another at the ending.
DeleteCongratualations on using the word fizog. I'm ashamed to say I've let it fall from my own vocab but will now be looking to correct this. I've a notion we're probably about the same age and grew up watching the same stuff. On the subject of helmets you're right. Outland stuck little tiny lights inside Sean's helmet so you could see where they spent the money and the prevalence of the fishbowl design in more modern films is most probably for exactley that same reason than any design shift. I know the other film you're talking about but also can't recall the name - didn't make the mistake of going to see that one! Going off to look into Space Race. Cheers for the pointer
ReplyDeleteJust looked at some Youtube of Space Race and it does look similar, especially in profile. There's a ridge on the top in StarCops but I guess that could be changed as it seems to be a seperate bit. I've still got all of Starcops to have a look at on DVD as I missed it the first time round.
DeleteYeah I know what you mean, the thing that makes me think it's a redressed Star Cops helmet is the -bread bin- look and the bearing for the visor. There's also some filler visible around the bottom of the visor on the right, which you can see when Yuri get's his good luck kiss, Interestingly if you get to see the episode where Alan Shepard takes off, you'll see a really bad helmet, made all the worse cos the Mercury helmets are so distinctive and just so bloody cool. Sfunny I never would have noticed stuff like that before I was a regular visitor here.
DeleteYeah, sorry about that :)
ReplyDeleteI noticed a few MoonZeroTwo and UFO helmets pop up here and there and next thing you know I've started a blog and I'm buying strange DVD's and rewatching stuff on youtube and then it's two years later! And I'm still not finnished with it. It's by no means an obsession but I still find all this stuff quite interesting. Having other people, like yourself, playing along makes it even more satisfying.
Just came across this
