  1. So, what is a pretaris, and why is the ship going between them?

    1. Well quite!

I think its actually the name of the ship but as to the whys and wherefores, well I'll leave that for someone else to explore.

    2. More seriously, you're correct; the ship is named Interpretaris.

I'd love to know why, though.

    3. Apparently, it is the "second-person singular present active indicative of the Latin verb interpretor."

      https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/interpretaris

"Interpretor" means "I explain." So I guess it means "You are explaining."

My theory is that they did it to screw up universal translators.

      ALIEN: Who are you?

      HEROES: You are explaining.

      ALIEN: No, I am asking.

HEROES: I just told you that you are explaining.

      ALIEN: No I'm not.

HEROES: Of course not. We are.

      ALIEN: You are what?

      HEROES: You are explaining.

  2. It may have something to do with the captain being an expert in various languages, they make this point during the introduction of the captain right at the beginning of the episode

    1. That's really interesting. I take it that linguistics is actually a plot point?
