Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)

 

I quite like the occasional comic book and don't mind the odd superhero, however I just can't get on with Superman in any form.

With that said it may come as no surprise that I haven't seen this particular film or am I ever likely to so it's a big thanks to blog-follower Tim for pointing out this small scene of interest.

What makes it especially good is that I've a keen eye for a recycled prop and I think I've spotted a
couple here.

The backpack is an absolute definite reuse of the Outland backpacks, made for that film, as this behind the scenes image will reveal.

 

The second observation is that the helmet may be the same as featured in Unidentified Flying Oddball or whichever of its various titles you care to know it by.

 

It's hard to be certain and its a safe bet that that production had recycled it from somewhere else before but it does have quite a few distinctive features.  As ever with these things feel free to correct me if you know better.

Lieutenant Maryann Stewart played by Dianne Stanley in the first of the Planet of the Apes films.

Unfortunately it didn't pan out too well for Lieutenant Stewart and she didn't even make it out of bed let alone off the ship.

The Adventures of Don Quick (1970) Gallery

As some kind soul has recently uploaded episode one of The Adventures of Don Quick onto You Tube we can now all have a little look at what has been lost and almost forgotten for quite some time.  We can also have ourselves a little gallery of images.

The episode is called The Benefits of Earth and should be viewable via the link below.  It's the only known episode to still exist and having just watched it I have to say that although its a little overlong it's otherwise very enjoyable.  I would love for the rest of the episodes to turn up some day but at least we still have this one.  Enjoy.

The Sea of Perdition (2006)

The Sea of Perdition is short film by director; Richard Stanley.

 It follows a lone astronaut exploring the Martian landscape who......  Actually its not much more than about 8 minutes in duration so you should probably just go and find out for yourself.   It's available on YouTube as well as a number of other places and  it really is well worth a little look.

I've been a Richard Stanley fan since catching Hardware on VHS back in the day and his follow up; Dust Devil (The directors cut) is a work of dark art.  After that it all went a bit wrong and Richard became a semi obscure all be it well respected cult figure.

Somebody should probably give him a big fat cheque and a movie script  to direct but in the meantime his film shorts are more than worth the cost of admission.  Well done, Sir.  More please.  Many, many more.

The Tripods - Series 2 (1985)

Not such a big fan of this show although I am a massive fan of John Christopher, author of the original books on which the BBC TV series was based.  Good old Aunty Beeb only managed to get two thirds of the way through the trilogy before giving it up as a bad dull thing.  They should probably have another crack at it now that technology is more up to the job but then again if it turned out to be only half as witless as their last attempt at Day of the Triffids, then they perhaps shouldn't bother.

Nude on the Moon (1961)

Nude on the Moon is a degrading and shocking exploitation of the female-form that repeatedly exposes the most obvious of the lady-bumps purely to titillate (tee-hee) and turn a cheap profit....

However that's not going to stop me covering it here.

Never seen it.  Probably never will but according to Wikipedia;

Nude on the Moon is a 1961 sexploitation film co-written and co-directed by Doris Wishman and Raymond Phelan under the shared pseudonyms "O. O. Miller" and "Anthony Brooks". The film was produced in 1960 but was not released theatrically until 1961. Doris Wishman went on to become a significant filmmaker and noteworthy director of sexploitation movies. Wishman is also credited as the film's co-producer.
