1977
1980?
Two editions of the same book, both paying homage to a different, previously existing, spacesuit.
The first is clearly: Space: 1999 - Mission of the Darians (1975) with some elements of the UFO and Moon Zero Two spacesuits
And the second is the classic: Alien (1979) Ripley's Suit
Because I'm reading a lot of old books from the 60's 70's and 80's this year I was quite happy to order myself an copy of the top one for that reason and the rather lovely cover. I'll update artist info when it arrives, if its documented.
Steve
Crazy covers indeed.
ReplyDeleteDid you get a chance to check out The Ninth Configuration movie that I mentioned back in the red dwarf season 12 post?,I mean this crazy film has 2 suits, the earth 2/six million dollar man suit+the way out/escape from the planet of the apes suit but with a new helmet I`ve never seen before and in addition to that its got a moon walk scene with a crucified jesus on the moon!.Its written and directed by william peter blatty of the exorcist fame.
I posted some links to pics+the movie back in the sept op
It sounds weird and right up my street - love idiosyncratic films - so I've just ordered it. I'll make it some Christmas holiday viewing and report back
DeleteIt's not just the Alien space suit in the 1980 cover, the spacecraft in the background looks to based on the Nostromo.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Just some shameless rip off work really with almost no attempt to hide the fact. Still, it keeps us occupied :)
