Lifeforce (1985) Movie Poster

The film Lifeforce is to Colin Wilson's original book The Space Vampires, much what Blade Runner is to Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep; Which is on nodding terms at best.  Both are good books but the films only represent a small aspect of the plots all be it the aspects that are the most cinematic.  Talking of which, this version of the movie poster just nails it for me.  Like anyone would have walked past that in 1985 and not gone in to check the movie out.  I know I didn't.

Lifeforce (1985)

Loved this film when it first came out.  Not so sure it still stands up now but back then there was so much to like about it.  In fact it's biggest problem is that there's almost too much going on and being told too quickly.  It feels like it would make a far better TV mini series.  A modern day Quatermass with blood and boobs and the walking dead!  Neale would turn in his grave of course but it would be a definite crowd-pleaser.

Space Truckers (1996)

Why have I never seen this? It looks sort of interesting.

Star Trek: First Contact (1996)

Probably the best Star Trek spacesuit.  There's almost a nod to Lost in Space here too with the red vests.  Obviously at least one of these pictures is upside down but it made more sense to flip it round for the purposes of the blog.  Go watch the film.  There's so much to like.

Event Horizon (1997)

I quite like this film. It's Hellraiser in space, sort of. Or 2001 meets the Exorcist. For my money I could have taken a bigger revelation at the end; something Lovcraftian crossing back over into our world, even as a post credits glimpse. At the very least I like to pretend it's set in a shared universe with Disney's The Black Hole.
