Starcrash (1978) pt1

Starcrash; An outlaw smuggler and her alien companion are recruited by the Emperor of the Galaxy to rescue his son and destroy a secret weapon by the evil Count Zarth Arn.

There you go, the plot from IMDb because I've never had the pleasure of this USA/Italian production.  I hear it's a bit rubbish but its got Caroline Munro in it so, being a man of a certain age, that makes almost anything redeemable...maybe!

  1. Also starring a very young david hasselhof in his pre nightrider days.Starcrash isnt a bad piece of old tosh and its certainly better than some of the other italian sf offerings from around the same time like War of the robots and Star Odyssey

    1. I could stand a season of Italian Sci-fi films on the TV. At the very least they're always pretty to look at.

  2. I caught it a while ago on Youtube, maybe a couple of years ago. It was quite difficult viewing, the on screen events seem to be only tenuously connected to the plot, which is quite banal but as a consequence hard to follow too. Some kind of achievement I suppose, I suspect it may have been subject to rewriting post production, something that happens more than occasionally in Italian productions. This facility is abetted by the Italian practice of filming, even quite high budget flicks, entirely without synchronised sound, which I think is the case here because unfortunately , you don't get to hear Caroline Munro's voice, she's dubbed some anon. In fact Caroline is rather poorly exploited throughout the film, which would have benefited from some Barbarella style lingering on Caroline's assets, ah well. There's some visual and audio effects you'll recognise, if you've seen Roger Corman's efforts in the genre from about the same time, Galaxy of Terror and such, which are generally much more entertaining, except for perhaps Battle Beyond the Stars, which is a bit dull. One thing that's hard to reconcile about the flick is Christopher Plummer's, participation, he seems so incongruous being as he was reasonably bankable actor at the time, I wonder how they managed to con him into appearing in it?

    1. Good review, fairly damning and not unique in it's condemnation and criticisms. Which leaves me feeling that it's not worth paying cash for but if it ever came on the TV, I'd give it an eyeball. for free but ~I still might want a refund on the time. I read Plumber's filming was all done in one day - A smash and grab acting gig and they probably lied to him and said it will be the next Star Wars
